The ‘Be Real’ Goal Check In

The ‘Be Real’ Goal Check In

Can you believe that the first month of 2018 has already come and gone?

We can’t either. We’re taking this time to check in on the goals we started chasing 30 days ago and see where we’re falling on the goal-ometer.

The only way to do this is to get as real as possible, and we do that by asking ourselves these questions:

What goals are winning? What goals are failing?

Get clear on the goals you’ve taken actions on and the goals that you’ve left behind. A follow-up question to ask yourself about the importance of your goals: why am I doing this? Go down your list and answer this question for each of them. Come back to why you set them out as a goal in the first place.

What habits do you need to change to get your goals where you want them to be?

We’ve previously talked about why goals shouldn’t be the only thing you set out for yourself this year. Building habits is just as important. If you have a goal to do one-hour workouts every morning, are you working on building a habit of getting up earlier? Try putting your alarm on the opposite side of the room so you’re forced to physically get up and turn it off. Keep repeating the habit to allow yourself to start taking small actions to get your goal going.

Does the goal still fit with your 10-year vision?

If your heart is attached to the goal and you know your why, yet you’re still not taking any action on meeting the goal, ask yourself if the goal fits with your 10-year timeline. Maybe all you need to do is adjust your deadline. Rather than a one-year goal, maybe it’s a 6-month goal. And if the goal doesn’t fit with what you want to accomplish in 10 years, maybe it’s meant to be put on hold.

Are there any goals that don’t matter anymore?

If ‘the why’ of a goal doesn’t resonate anymore, it’s okay to drop it and quit. The q-word doesn’t have to be a bad thing. We’ll go on record as being big supporters of keeping your word and getting to that finish line. Yet if the goal doesn’t matter, you’re not inspired by ‘the why’, or it doesn’t fit in your 10-year plan, reevaluate what this goal means. Drop it altogether or adjust it to make it matter again.

Do your goals still get your heart beating faster?

Then stick with them! If the excitement of the possibility of reaching your goal is still there in your heart, it is NOT time to quit. It’s time to step up and take an action. Right now. We mean it. Get off your computer and go take that first step in meeting your goal.

We’re in your back corner the whole way and we want to hear all about where you’re at with your goals.

Comment below or share with us on social the goals you’re winning, the ones you’re failing, and what you’re doing about it.
