Manager ESSENTIALS

A comprehensive training program that helps people managers lead their teams and drive organizational results.

Twelve Modules help new people managers transition into their next level of leadership and understand how their own behaviours and perspectives play an important role in their success as a manager. They will leave with newfound knowledge to drive results, develop their people, and achieve corporate goals with ease and efficiency.

High performers often struggle to evolve their “super-doer” skills into “super-managing.” Manager Essentials focuses on how you can take your track record and translate it into even larger success with a team. Topics include the 12 key competencies that managers need to master. These modules are designed to help people managers understand how behaviours and perspectives play an important role as a leader.

How It Works

This program is delivered online for 12 weeks with one of our lead Facilitators in an Online Community Cohort format. You will be learning alongside others with a Corker Collective Facilitator. This way of learning allows for discussion, to work through real-time scenarios and to engage in a much-needed way.

Curriculum

  • As Managers there is a tendency to want to fix, solve and tell people how to do their jobs. This is more often than not how you get this role, because of your knowledge and ability to take the lead on projects, to fix and to solve. We are going to introduce perhaps new habits here to develop high-functioning teams. Developing people is the name of the game; it is what supports growth and people retention. We are shifting from problem-solving to developing the person who is problem-solving.

  • This module will help you understand the impact a healthy mindset has on your life, your relationships and your overall success. You will learn about the tools needed to self-regulate your thoughts by better understanding them. This is essential in understanding how to manage other people’s mindsets coming from various backgrounds and lived experiences.

  • You are responsible for how you show up, what you say and how you act. In this Module, we will identify areas of potential communication breakdown and give you the tools to be 100% responsible for your words and actions.

  • Learn to deliver expert feedback in a constructive and supportive way. This module supports building confidence by learning The Corker Collective format for giving and receiving feedback. High-performance managers recognize that feedback is a gift to create a new way forward. The goal of the gift is to structure feedback in a way that is a cause for a change in behaviour. We will explore the what, the how and the why behind feedback.

  • In this module, we will explore courageous conversations using The Corker Collective’s SCION model. We will celebrate conflict and the opportunity that difficult conversations present. If you tend to run from crunchy conversations, this module will help you build confidence in having these life-altering conversations.

  • This module will explore your intersectionality to better acknowledge the differences between us. You will uncover your unconscious bias and how it impacts decision-making and thought processes. You will identify where you have come from and the impact of your personal lens. This work is critical to understanding how you perceive others, build relationships and most importantly, show up in the world.

  • In this module we will explore hiring and managing for inclusivity on your team. Today’s workplace requires managers to understand how to manage an intersectional team who will probably be culturally and gender diverse, among many other lenses. There are no clear boundaries between work and life. Resignations are on the rise and while people crave purpose and flexibility; they also have a deep desire to feel a sense of belonging for being themselves. Diversity is bringing a variety of perspectives and lived experiences into your organization. Inclusion is how seen, engaged, and valued they feel when they get there. In this Module, we will learn how to show and model respect, discover skills to honour what lights people up and make work – work! It’s time to develop skills to change current working behaviours.

  • Setting goals to create an environment for maximum engagement for any team, partnership or organization starts with you! Start with the big-picture vision – drill down into how this translates to goals, how they are prioritized, and how the manager can set clear expectations with their team. We will cover how to keep goals alive in your organization and the habits required to support this. + How to keep goals alive in your organization + Habits to support this new behaviour + Leave knowing how to set clear expectations with your team + How to make a vision real and tangible.

  • In this Module, we will cover the different roles within a project using the CODI model. From starting a project to completing a project, we will share how to create, manage and delegate according to roles and responsibilities. By using these key tools, your projects will run with greater ease and your teams will feel appreciated and energized along the way.

  • Our day is filled with incoming requests; understanding how to get the most important work done and filter distractions is one component of a great day! This module focuses on how to manage multiple requests and demands of your time and the time of your team.

  • This module will support you as a leader in your organization to understand the bigger picture around people and pipeline planning. You will discover the heartbeat metric and why people are an important part of the overall process.

  • You matter. Without you being at your best, it is not possible for you to bring out the best in your people. This module will focus on where your energy comes from and goes throughout the day. We will explore techniques for improving your energy management with basic essentials including sleep, food, mindfulness and movement. (Spoiler: this module is essential to all areas of your life and has been known to make an impact on those closest to you!)
